Third Street’s outdoor summer concert series feature a lineup of well-known local bands of diverse musical traditions – from Klezmer to Flamenco to Jazz, as well as Third Street summer chamber music workshop students. Concerts take place on most Thursdays in June and July at 12:30 p.m. in the Abe Lebewohl Park. Presented in association with the Tenth & Stuyvesant Streets Block Association and St.Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery.

June 6, 2019 – Neal Kirkwood & Friends
The band has performed and recorded for over 30 years with jazz luminaries Herbie Hancock, Phillie Joe Jones, the Village Vanguard Orchestra, Abby Lincoln, Chet Baker, Ray Barretto, Tony Bennett, and many more. The group will be performing Kirkwood’s original compositions as well as classic Jazz standards.
June 13, 2019 – Arturo O’Farrill Latin-Jazz Group

Students from Third Street Music School’s Summer Chamber Music Workshop will perform a variety of chamber music selections, from classical to contemporary. Students range in age from 7 to 18.
July 18, 2019 – Gypsy Jazz Caravan
Gypsy Jazz Caravan is a New York City based acoustic ensemble that plays Hot Jazz inspired by the music of legendary French Gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt, and jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. Gypsy Jazz Caravan’s extensive repertoire includes swing standards, ballads, bossa novas, tangos, waltzes and a growing number of original compositions.
July 25, 2019 –Shoko Nagai’s Tokala
“Shoko Nagai’s TOKALA” explores the sound of the ancient connection between Japan and Middle East via Silk Road where cultural exchange happened and left an imprint which became integral part of Japanese culture. Shoko Nagai on accordion/voice, Kenny Warren on trumpet, Ron Caswell on tuba, Satoshi Takeishi on percussion.
August 1, 2019 – The Billy Newman Quintet
Since 1987, Billy Newman has been traveling to Brazil researching Brazilian music and performing with local musicians in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Recife and Florianopolis. The Quintet includes some of the best Brazilian and American musicians in the city and performs original music as well as Frevo, Samba, Baião and Choro, the fantastic styles of Brazilian Instrumental.
