Each summer, the School offers a day camp, special workshops and instrumental instruction. Registration for
summer programs starts in March.
Important dates for Summer 2008:

We offer the following summer camp, workshops, classes and lessons:
Summer Arts Day Camp -
five weeks (24 days)
The Summer Arts Day Camp offers a unique, creative arts experience for 3 to 6 year-olds. Campers learn
from the same highly experienced, caring early childhood educators who lead our acclaimed Nursery and Preschool
Programs during the school year. All staff members possess strong backgrounds in the arts. The licensed camp is now
in its 29th year.
Afro-Caribbean Percussion Ensemble -
five weeks (10 days)
For drummers & percussionists ages 10 through adult
This workshop introduces students to the Afro-Caribbean rhythms of rumba, son, bomba and merengue. Students will
also learn the role of the clave in Afro-Caribbean music. The instruments to be studied are the bomba drum (primo
and buleador), tumbadoras (quinto, tres golpes, and tumbador), claves, maracas, cua, cascara and guiro. Students
perform and share their skills with family and friends at their final concert.
Chamber Music Workshop -
two weeks (8 days)
Recommended ages: 8 - 18, for woodwinds, piano and strings
The Chamber Music Workshop is an eight-day summer program that combines intensive music study with daily
recreational activities. Students are assigned to a chamber group and receive two hours of coaching each day. In
addition, students receive supervised practice, numerous master classes, and a variety of workshops that include
drumming, theory, sight-reading, and Dalcroze Eurythmics. There are two student performances: one outdoor concert
in nearby Abe Lebewohl Parkand the final student concert in the Anna-Maria Kellen Auditorium.
Piano Ensemble Workshop - two
weeks (8 days)
Recommended ages: 8 - 18, for early intermediate through advanced players.
This unique eight-day workshop enables piano students to experience the joy of piano chamber music repertoire written
for 1-2-3-4-5 and even 6 pianos/keyboards. Every day of the Piano Ensemble åWorkshop is packed with lots of keyboard fun.
Students rehearse, perform, and practice sight-reading and improvisation skills on a variety of keyboards. Most of
the School's studios are equipped with Steinway grand pianos, and students also have the opportunity to play
electric pianos, electronic keyboards and the harpsichord. The fun and festivities culminate in a final performance.
Dance Workshop - three weeks (12 days)
For experienced dancers ages 7 and up
The Dance Workshop features classes in African, ballet and tap dance. Students take daily technique classes,
choreograph and rehearse new works and give a final performance. This is a workshop for serious students and
an interview with the Director of the Dance Workshop is required before registering.
Summer Art Workshop - two weeks (9 or 10 days)
Recommended ages: 5 - 10
The Summer Art Workshop encourages creativity and self-expression using a range of materials including: charcoal, pastels,
tempera paint, wood and clay. The daily schedule includes one hour of sketching and still-life drawing, a snack-time break,
followed by 2 hours of work on projects involving sculpture, clay, collage and painting. All materials and individual
sketchbooks are included with tuition. This workshop is limited to 15 children.
Summer Note Reading - five weeks (5 days)
A creative, stimulating and fun approach to learning the basics of note reading. Through the use of games,
puzzles and books, students will learn to recognize notes and note values, and be given an introduction to rhythm.
Students who have previously taken a note-reading class will have anopportunity to review and continue with note
reading and rhythmic skills. Students interested in this class should contact the Coordinator, Min Sun Kim, before registering.
Adult Chamber Music - five weeks (5 days)
The Adult Chamber Music program offers opportunities for adult students to play together in traditional and
non-traditional chamber music ensembles and to work with a coach. The fee includes one 90-minute session per week
(45 minutes with a chamber music coach and 45 minutes of rehearsal).
Individual and Partner Instruction - five weeks
Individual lessons are the foundation of a student's musical education, and are available for all levels
of ability. New students should contact the Registrar, who will schedule placement.
Group Instrumental Classes - five weeks
Two students will be scheduled in a 30-minute class; three students in a 45-minute class; and four or more
students in a 60-minute class.
